Day 150 - Black, Gray, and Pink Stripes

Yeah!! I made it 150 days. That's a lot of socks! And I still have a lot more to go :)

Had to take to Miles to the vet today. He somehow managed to break his only remaining upper canine tooth. He broke the last one in the summer of 2009. I can't figure out how he does it. The prognosis isn't good. He doesn't appear to be in pain, which is good. But the tooth can't stay broken forever. Bacteria will get in it and his gums will get infected. So the tooth needs to be pulled or he needs a root canal. The vet reccomends the root canal so he can still have at least a piece of an upper tooth instead of none. Cats don't use those teeth for much. Tearing meat mostly, but also it's the only way for him to pick up food or toys. Really the teeth are used to put/keep anything in his mouth. Whatever I choose it's not going to be cheap. I need to call some speciatly vets tomorrow to get prices on the root canal. Ugh!

My poor boy!! Since this injury is rare in indoor cats, he may just have weak teeth. Or he's just super klutzy like him Mom since the tooth is usually broken cause of banging into something.  Probably a combination of both. Whatever am I going to do with my Miles!!

Day 148 & 149 - More Stripes

Yeah I am finally starting to feel better!!! The congestion is gone but I the cough is lingering. Hope that goes away in the next few days.

I got another week off from nannying. Going to get my hair cut and colored today. Excited for the gray to go away.  That's really all that's on the agenda for the day. It's big considering I have done a whole lot of nothing for a whole week.

Day 146 & 147 - Green Stripes and Black Toe Socks

Still sicky poo, but managed to get out of the house yesterday. Had to make a run to PetSmart to get the kitties more food. Also went to Reba's for a game night. It was a late night but pretty fun.

Today I decided to have myself a Toy Story marathon. They are short so I'm already near the end of Toy Story 2. They really are great movies! Not much else on today's agenda. Gotta type up a list for Elyse, watch the Oscars, and make a grocery list for next week. A big day for sure.

Day 144 & 145 - Sicky Socks

Since I got back I have been dealing with a cold/cough. It's not been fun. I can't stop coughing. And I feel all fevery. Hot one second, cold the next. Eww. Thankfully I haven't had to babysit this week. I don't think I could have kept up with the kids since I can barely stay awake for more than 4 hours at a stretch. Hopefully I'm on the upswing of this though. Feeling a little better today. Let's hope it sticks!

Day 140, 141, 142 & 143 - Jersey Socks

Took a trip to NJ to see Kim over President's weekend. When I got there we went bowling with the boys. I did pretty good, despite the bumpers messing up some of my spare pick ups. We also spent an afternoon at the spa. I had a really good massage. It was a combonation of an accupressure massage, hot stone-ish, and a swedish massage. Totally wonderful. Afterwards we headed to Bethlehem to hit up the Sands casino. Overall the weekend was ok. Would have been better if Kim's soon to be ex-husband didn't call every 30 minutes. I won $18 at the casino so that is something. And we had a yummy meal at Emeril's.

Day 139 - Orange Stripes

I have a lot or socks with stripes, but this may be my only pair of orange crew socks. I got them for Christmas.

Day 138 - Frog Hearts

These are really valentine's socks I got from Cathy, but I boycotted V-day so today they are getting their debut. It's finally getting warmer here, at least for a few days. Gonna be up into the 50's tomorrow. Wahoo!! Sounds so warm compared to the teens of the past weeks.

Today I have no plans other than to veg out on the couch and watch some of the million movies I've taped. AMC is doing a 30 days of Oscar thing, so they are showing all kinds of old movies. I am not sure I have liked any yet but I am trying. I have on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers now.  Watched Citizen Kane which made pretty much no sense. South Pacific which was long but ok. Can barely remember what else. Clearly nothing that made much of an impression.

It's been a while since I have spent the day doing nothing. Always do some kind of chore or work around the house, but today I am boycotting it all. With the exception of feeding myself, I am doing nothing. And I am so excited about it!!!!!!

Day 135, 136 & 137 - Plaids and Snowflakes

Another three days worth of knee socks. Enjoy!

Tomorrow a real post I promise!

Day 132, 133 & 134 - Stripes and Circles

If you look closely you'll see William's baby foot at the top of that last picture.

Obviously I am still a slacker poster. Need to get back into the swing of things. It's a little hard on the days I've been babysitting but hopefully that will pick up. Since I have been going out more in the cold I'm getting to wear more of my knee socks. Yeah!

Day 130 & 131 - Black Designs

Some big bright socks for the weekend. Sunday it was surprisingly warm, 40. I was almost confused about how to dress since it's been so cold. It's funny how that would be way freezing when I was in FL, but now I was debating on if I should even wear a sweatshirt. It's amazing what you can get used to.

Breaking news from the weekend, I got a job! Well it's part time nannying for my cousin's in-laws. They have a 1 year old and a 5 myear old. It's not a forever job, but they were in a bind so I am glad to do it. Plus it's some extra money each week. I will be working Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 5. Tomorrow is my first day. Glad to have a reason to leave the house 2 days a week :)

Day 128 & 129 - Snowstorm Red and Purple

In case you haven't been watching the news we got hit with a hell of a storm the last two days. So I ended up spending the whole thing hold up in my apartment. The 8inches of snow and freezing rain were kinda scary. Did some super fun shoveling the last two days.  Only dug out half the car yesterday so I had chop away at the ice today to get my car out. It was less than pleasant. Thankfully all the ice is gone. The crap part is that there's more snow expected for Saturday. I am so over snow!!!

How do you like them icicles?

So sorry for the slacking. Should be back on track with posting tomorrow.

Day 126 & 127 - Black Cat and Apples

I love love love the cat socks. I wore then for our big night out at the bar in Kilington. The other pair I kept thinking were cherries but in fact are apples. Who knew.

Day 122, 123, 124 & 125 - Stripes Galore

Been slacking on the posting lately. Don't even have a good excuse. Spent the weekend in Killington, VT on Elyse's annual ski trip. It was great fun. Exhausting, but great fun. Still trying to recover, catch up on sleep, and detox from the 3 long days of drinking and eating poorly. Think this year was more fun than last since we all know each other better than last year. That's helpful when you are dealing with 28 people.  Anyway here are all the striped socks I wore on my journey.

Day 120 & 121 - Blue Plaid and Dark Gray Knee Socks

It was negative degrees yesterday with a windchill of -20. Seriously!!! That's absurd! I left the house for an errand but that was it. It made me so scared to go outside. That most certainly was the coldest weather I've ever been in. Today we had some snow, but it wasn't bad. Suppossed to have a big storm tomorrow night and another 8 to 10 inches of snow. Ug!

Day 118 & 119 - White Sleep Socks and Stripes

Don't have a good excuse for missing the last few days. All the snow shoveling and cold has kinda worn me out and made me especailly lazy. Oh well...

Day 117 - Mismatched Black

Not much to report for today.  My walk to the gym this morning was pretty treacherous.  The sidewalks are covered in a layer of ice. Tried to at least get the ice off my sidewalk cause there's more snow expected for tomorrow. 3 to 6 inches. Eww!! I don't really mind the snow, but I don't like having to shovel more than once a week. That's pushing it.

I swear every time Miles sees the camera he wants to get his picture taken. How could I resist? He's so cute! And Mia's back on her pillow in the background. She's been there for the majority of the day. Really being a cat mush be such a hard life..

Day 116 - Stripes

Mia has gone back to sleeping on her couch pillow. You can see her beyond my feet. She laid off for a while cause I didn't have the right pillow on that side of the couch, but now she's back to her spot :)

I have what some say is a strange habit, but it makes me so happy. Just this morning I thought about how great it is. Took a nice hot shower this morning after the gym. Enjoyed a nice cold diet pepsi while in there. It is such a great feeling. The hot water hitting my outside, then taking a big drink of a cold pepsi. It's great! I almost always take a beverage into the shower with me. And I don't get why people think it's weird. The hot and cold together are a great mix. It's not like my drink gets shower water in it. My shower here has a perfect spot on the window ledge free from the water of the shower.

Even just drinking cold water in the shower is great. And a super cold beer is almost as good as the Diet Pepsi. Really there's not much that doesn't taste good in the shower. I reccomend drinking a beverage in a bottle or a can.  Glasses are much harder to control. And I'm always afraid of dropping the glass. It's ok to do if there's a sink or ledge outside the shower you can put the glass on. I think everyone should try it, at least once. Maybe you'll become a shower drinker too. Or at the very least stop thinking I'm so weird :)

Day 114 & 115 - Double Pink

Note: Simon grooming Miles on the left

One yucky day in the neighborhood today. Snow, Rain, and Ice. Good thing I haven't had to go anywhere today :) Played some Monopoly on the Wii. Made some soup Mushroom, Tofu, and Noodle Soup for lunch. And dinner of Spicy Chicken Stew is in the crock pot as we speak.

Spent some time watching movies yesterday. I don't think I will ever be someone who likes the Classics. Watched The Bridge Over the Rive Kwai and From Here To Eternity. I couldn't really get that much into either.  Also watched the new Alice In Wonderland. That one at least held my interest, but the story wasn't what I thought it would be. The whole movie was pretty weird actually. Not sure why it got nominated for any Golden Globes.

Watching Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squekquel now. It's as ridiculous as I expected it to be, but at least it's somewhat entertaining. I always liked the Chipmunks growing up. And there was an animated movie Bridget and I used to watch all the time about them Hot Air Ballooning across the world collecting dolls filled with jewels and cash. I can't remember the name of that movie. I kinda wanna watch it again. The new cartoons don't have anything on the old 80's cartoons.

Day 113 - Brown Stripes

Sunday again. Off to bowling in a few hours. Missed last week cause of my arthritic thumbs. Not sure I'll gonna be any good today, but we'll see. Then it's sushi for dinner time. Wahoo!!!

Did a whole lot of cooking yesterday. Made some Baked Potato Soup from scratch. It wasn't hard but just time consuming. Totally worth it though. I also made some homemade pretzel breadsticks. They were pretty labor intensive. Rolling out dough, baking, submerging in boiling water, more baking. They totally turned out great!!! I ate WAY too many of them. Have some to eat leftover too.

Bowling here I come... Let's hope I don't injure my thumbs anymore.

Day 111 & 112 - Blue Polka Dots and Gray Eights

Missed posting yesterday. Had a tiring trip to the grocery store. Carrying in groceries in the winter isn't fun. Made up for the lack of grocery fun by going out to Mexico Lindo for dinner with Steph. Had some Sangria and of course, Chips and Queso. Ended up playing some cards and Apples to Apples afterwards. A good time for sure. Haven't really done anything yet today past cooking lunch and some reading.

Time for Friday's Top Five. I'm a day late, but whatever. So here goes: Top Five Things I Most Frequently Buy at Grocery Store

1. Diet Pepsi - I could die without it. Usually get cans and 24oz bottles.

2. Bananas - I don't think I have ever been to the store without buying a bunch of bananas. I eat at least one a day.

3.  Mushrooms - Even if a recipe doesn't call for them I add them. Anything that has vegetables can benefit from some mushrooms. Got a package of wild mushrooms this time to make a Mushroom soup this week. I always buy the whole mushroooms instead of the sliced.  Feel like they are more versatile since I can cut them in whatever size I want.

4. Cheese - I always buy at least one bag of shredded cheese. Yesterday I bought 3. I mostly get the Chedder and the Mexican blends. Really cheese makes EVERYTHING better.

5. Chicken Broth - Lately I find myself buying it every time I go since I have been making so many soups. I use it in a lot of my Weight Watchers recipes too.

Day 110 - Pink Snowflakes

Dealing with the aftermath of yesterday's blizzard. Done a lot of shoveling since I last wrote. Did about an hour yesterday, then another hour this morning. The car has finally been dug out and the porch cleared off. There's a snow pile shoulder high on the side of my porch. It's obscene. My street doesn't get plowed as much or as well as the other streets. There's no place for the plow to turn around and no one really has a yard to put the snow in. It's ridiculous. I only hope it heats up soon so the snow will melt.  The forecast doesn't look promising tho.

Caught quite a few episodes of I Shouldn't Be Alive lately. It's a show about people who overcome some pretty extraordinary circumstances and come out alive. Mostly they are stories about adventure people who climb isolated mountains, try to boat across dangerous waters, or do something naturey all alone. I feel confident I won't be in those situations cause I never intend to spend a month rafting through the grand canyon alone or climbing an ice mountain. Those people are crazy, but at least I've learned how to survive if I need to.

Timer is buzzing. Baked Mac and Cheese with Broccoli is ready. Yummy!

Day 109 - Blue Cats

Dedicating today's blog to my Mia. 6 years ago today I brought her home from the SPCA. She became my very first pet. The day I brought her home she hid under my bed and stayed there for almost 2 weeks. She'd creep out at night to eat, but rarely when I was in the room. Eventually she got used to her new home and me. I remember the very first time she crawled on my lap and cuddled with me. It was almost 4 months. I'd been away on vacation for 10 days. I was on the couch catching up on my TV when she crawled on my lap. Nowadays as soon as I sit down, Mia wants to be on my lap. She is such a big part of my life. Almost every night she's sleeping my side.

Six years ago I never would have predicted that a cat could change my life so much, but she has. I feel like having Mia has made me a happier person. Every day she's here when I get home. She depends on me. I am her Mommy.  And if it wasn't for Mia I wouldn't have gotten my boys, Miles and Simon. Together the four of us are a family.  I love my kitties. And I love my Mia!

Some pictures of my bestest little girl.
